Event title: Data Protection is a change for Healthcare Providers

On July 11th and 12th, the first outcomes of the GDPR4H-study were discussed during the expert conference on data protection in healthcare. The 20 participants, among them data protection specialist, hospital staff and marketing managers for the health sector, were very interested to hear about European developments in the field of data protection for health since GDPR was introduced in May 2018.

During the first day, the participants were introduced to the outcomes of the GDPR4H-study and discussed possible advantages and specialities for the health sector. The study was presented by Dr. Erik Malchow from the Steinbeis University (Berlin, Germany). During the second day, the participants got acquainted with how to handle difficult GDPR-measures in the health sector. Mr. Fabian Rüter, expert in the field of GDPR in healthcare, gave insights and illustrated lively case studies to make the participants aware of certain pitfalls concerning regional, national and European law.

The last panel was lead by Christine Thieme, who was focussing on social media management for health institutions and how to handle data protection complaints. Mrs. Thieme provided the participants with useful tips and tricks in order to experience GDPR in a positive way to build trust with patients and colleagues. Her lecture was followed by a fruitful discussion.

At the end of the conference, it became more than clear that research in the special field is indispensable. All participants wanted to be kept up to date concerning the project development and asked for a continuation of the expert conference, providing useful insights on important topics for the preparation of a learning-outcome based DPO Curriculum & a Training course for DPOs in Health sector & trainers.
